        2. Ole Roemer was born on September 25, at Aarhus in Denmark to a family of merchants (Figure ).
        3. Ole Christensen Rømer was a Danish astronomer who, in , first demonstrated that light travels at a finite speed.
        4. Ole Rømer's observations of Jupiter and its moon Io led him to a ground-breaking discovery: Light needs time for it to reach the Earth.
        5. Around , Danish astronomer Ole Roemer became the first person to prove that light travels at a finite speed.
        6. Roemer’s Determination of Speed of Light

Earlier, many scientists believed that the speed of light was infinite and instantaneously could not travel any distance. In the early 17th century an Italian physicist Galileo Galilee devised an experiment and became the first person to try to measure the speed of light.

In his experiment, he made two persons stand on hilltops which were at a distance of a few kilometres. He took lanterns with these two persons covering it and stood at a known distance apart. Then in the working on an experiment one person uncovered his lantern and as soon as the other person saw the light, he also uncovered his own lantern.

Actually, while doing so Galileo wanted to record the time between lantern signals, but was unsuccessful because light moves so fast to be measured and  the distance involved was too small.

          Also, it needed inter-planetary determinations.
