          Eleanor Margaret Burbidge was born on August 12, 1919, in Davenport, Iowa.

          She developed a passion for astronomy at an early age, influenced by her grandfather. She earned her undergraduate degree from London University in 1939 and went on to become the director of the university's observatory from 1943 to 1951.

          Career in Astrophysics

          Burbidge's career in astrophysics spanned several decades and institutions.
